"fusion" was selected as the signature image for the 2025 Boneyard Arts Festival.
“fusion” is a work that embodies integration across multiple facets: of artists, with paper marbled by Andrew Preston; of forms, both geometric and organic; and styles, utilizing traditional and non-traditional origami techniques. It explores unpredictability through the manipulation of pattern and shape as the marbling of each paper square is transformed through layers of folding. New patterns then emerge as the tiles are combined and arranged.

Dwelling stacks a frame, columns, and rounded forms into a narrow, totem-like silhouette that feels halfway between furniture and architecture. It reads like a doorway that has stepped out of its wall, carrying traces of rooms and rituals with it. What remains is a house reduced to its essentials—a place built from outlines and echoes, where the memory of presence feels as tangible as any roof or floor.

Timepiece feels like a small machine caught between functions—a curved base cradling a single projecting arm, as if it might swing, point, or reset at any moment. Its forms hint at clocks, levers, and instruments of measure, but whatever it’s tracking has slipped beyond minutes and hours. It reads instead as an apparatus for marking less visible shifts: a tilt in balance, a change of heart, the quiet click between one version of yourself and the next.

Arcade builds a hallway of fragments— arches, ledges, tracks and supports-assembled into a structure that feels both mechanical and ceremonial. It hints at transit and play, a space meant for passing through, even as it holds the viewer in a suspended moment of looking.

Outpost gathers columns, spindles, and a single dark opening into a compact silhouette that feels part chimney, part telescope, part engine. The diagonals brace it forward, as if it were edging itself toward some unseen horizon, ready to catch whatever passes through. It reads like a solitary instrument stationed at the border of a landscape—quietly marking arrivals, departures, and the small shifts that signal something new is on its way.

Shrine rises as a tall monument of arcs and circles, like a quiet instrument tuned to the space around it. Its rounded forms suggest gateways and lenses—places where light, attention, and conversation might naturally collect. It feels like a landmark or focal point, a place that invites you to pause, align yourself for a moment, and then move back into the world, seeing it slightly differently.

Suspension rises like a fragment of borrowed skyline—narrow beams and slats stacked into a quiet thicket of lines. The few horizontal bands read as held breaths, brief pauses against an otherwise relentless upward pull. It feels less like a structure and more like a moment caught mid-air: a trace of something once supported. A reflection.

Rebuilt shadow gathers a chorus of tilted planes, each fragment of darkness carefully set back into place. The grid feels both strict and softened, like a blueprint that has been handled, revised, and lived with. It reads as a shadow reassembled after being shattered—a quiet symbol to the way a life can come apart and return as something more deliberate, faceted, and unexpectedly luminous.
